Notify AHCIP of changes
What changes affect my coverage?
Please notify Alberta Health and Wellness of any changes in your marital status, number of dependants and mailing address.Changes you should inform us about include:
Name and address
You must notify us if you change your legal name or have a new address. Notification can be made at no charge through select Alberta Registry Agent, your employer, or you can contact us directly.
Marital status
Married spouses must register on the same account. A spouse is covered on the family account from the date of marriage if notification is received within one month of the marriage. Otherwise, coverage begins on the first day of the month following receipt of the notification. Separated spouses may register together or separately. After divorce, each former spouse must register separately.
Adult Interdependent Relationships
Adult interdependent partners may register together or separately. A partner is covered on the family account from the date of adult interdependent partnership if notification is received within one month of the commencement of the Adult Interdependent Relationship. Otherwise, coverage begins on the first day of the month following receipt of the notification.
Newborn baby
Coverage is provided to newborn babies from the date of birth if notification is received within three months. Otherwise, the effective date of coverage is determined when you register the baby.
Your baby may have been registered at the time of birth through the Newborn Metabolic Screening program in Alberta. Contact us if registration has occurred and you have not yet received your baby's Alberta Personal Health Card.
Other dependants
Please notify us if you need to add other dependants to your plan. These dependants can include:
- A child you adopted or who is your ward;
- A foster child for whom you declare an income tax deduction;
- Single adult child under 25 enrolled in a full-time accredited educational program;
- Single adult child over 21 who becomes dependant through disability.
