When to show your AHCIP card

When should I show my Health Care number or card?

Your personal health number, which you can find on your personal Alberta Health Care card, must be provided when you are seeking or obtaining various health services. This is an important part of Alberta’s goal to have an electronic health record for every Albertan.

Some examples of services or service centres requiring health cards are:

• Hospitals;
• Doctors’ offices;
• Laboratories;
• Physiotherapists;
• Pharmacies.

With these services/service centres, you may also be asked to show picture identification.

Please remember to protect your number/card. This information should NOT be given to anyone else for identification purposes.
