West Nile Virus Public Awareness
On May 22, 2003, the Government of Alberta launched the Fight the Bite public awareness campaign about West Nile virus. Campaign materials have been developed since 2003 to provide reliable information about the disease and remind everyone to take precautions while enjoying the summer in Alberta.
Alberta government's 2009 West Nile virus campaign includes radio and newspaper advertisements primarily focused on southern Alberta where the risk is highest. The advertising, posters and brochure highlight the simple protective measures all Albertans should take to reduce their risk of contracting the virus.
- The brochure and posters are often available in libraries, museums, visitor information centers, senior organizations, lodges and supportive living centers, veterinary offices, parks, golf courses, hospitals and various other locations within cities, towns, villages and counties.
This information is for all Albertans, especially active adults and those 50 years of age and over who are more at risk of the infection and its serious consequences.
