Health Workforce Action Plan
Health workforce planning requires collaborative work between government departments and health sector stakeholders. Government departments, employers, educators and various professional and regulatory groups work together to identify ways in which Alberta can address the current health workforce issues in Alberta.
The Health Workforce Action Plan, with19 key initiatives and recommendations, is a first step towards addressing these issues. Some of the recommendations include creating a health career and skills assessment network, increasing clinical training capacity, attracting health professionals working abroad and reducing and avoiding injury
Health care aides
Health care aides are an unregulated part of Alberta’s health workforce. They work in a variety of settings including home care, assisted living facilities and long term care, under the direct or indirect supervision of a regulated health professional.
