Changes have been made to some drug programs and processes
The Alberta Pharmaceutical Strategy is designed to make drug coverage more accessible, affordable, efficient and effective for Albertans.
Phase 1, announced December 2008, focuses on:
- Improving drug coverage for seniors
- Adjusting non-group coverage premiums to reflect current market rates
- Establishing a single, government-sponsored drug plan with a common drug list
- Introducing a program to cover catastrophic drug costs for Albertans with rare diseases;and
- Creating a more timely and transparent drug review process
