Alternative Relationship Plans
ARPs – An important role
ARP information
ARP forms
Alternative Relationship Plans (ARPs) have an important role to play in health care delivery as they can encourage innovation in the health care system. The aim of this program is to develop compensation strategies – other than Fee For Service (FFS) – to remunerate physicians for providing defined program services.
As at March 31, 2011, approximately 1,688 physicians in Alberta practice part-time or full-time under both Clinical and Academic ARPs, and efforts have continuously been made for physicians to join and benefit from the advantages of ARPs.
ARPs may be suitable for physician groups of all specialties, in rural or urban areas, and for existing or new programs. Physician groups or Alberta Health Services (AHS) may initiate ARPs.
Purpose of an ARP
The purpose of an ARP is to provide innovation in clinical service, and may enhance the following five dimensions:
- Recruitment and retention;
- Team-based approach;
- Access;
- Patient satisfaction;
- Value for money.
