Claim for benefits through Alberta Blue Cross

Each subscriber is provided with an Alberta Blue Cross identification card issued in the name of the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan account holder.

Prescription drugs

For eligible prescription drugs, you are responsible for paying 30% of the cost of the prescription, to a maximum of $25 for each drug prescribed. The program covers the remaining eligible portion, billed directly to Alberta Blue Cross by the pharmacy. Show your Alberta Blue Cross identification card at the time of purchase.

If you are covered by more than one supplementary health benefit plan, eligible expenses may be coordinated between plans to maximize your benefits. For more information, contact your health benefits plan administrator.

Diabetic supplies

Expenses for eligible diabetic supplies may be billed directly to Alberta Blue Cross by the pharmacy. Present your Alberta Blue Cross ID card at the time of purchase.

Other health benefits

All other eligible expenses are paid by the individual at the time of service. The individual will be required to submit the invoice to Alberta Blue Cross for reimbursement.

  • To claim reimbursement for other eligible expenses, submit your claim on an Alberta Blue Cross claim form
  • Note: some health benefits providers may be able to bill directly to Alberta Blue Cross.

To be eligible for reimbursement, claims must be received by Alberta Blue Cross within 12 months of the service date. The service must have been provided after the effective date of your coverage.
