Home Care (Community-based Services)
Community-based care programs help people retain their independence for as long as possible. These programs include:- Home care;
- Personal and technical supports;
- Community rehabilitation;
- Assisted living;
- Day programs; and
- Respite care.
Albertans may be required to pay some of the costs for community-based services. Care needs assessments, care co-ordination and professional and personal services based on assessed need are usually fully covered.
Home care
The single largest component of community-based services is home care. Home care offers professional support services like nursing and rehabilitation, and personal support services like homemaking and care-giving practices, including assistance with meal preparation and bathing.
- Albertans may be eligible for publicly-funded home care services, including professional care and personal support. Publicly funded home care services are provided based on the assessed needs of the client. The regional health authorities are responsible for assessing the needs of their clients.
